Expedition Ketch – Major Milestones Made

Scroll down

The Expedition Ketch has reached key milestones with exterior construction complete, mizzen mast coaming installed, gloss proof-coat applied, and interior fit-out underway.

Two major milestone have been reached on the Expedition Ketch. First, the gluing in of the mizzen mast coaming. This completes the exterior build of the Ketch, a major step closer to launch.

Secondly, and very excitingly, the hull has had its gloss proof-coat applied. See the short video below. Well done to Marty, Peter and the team, great effort.

No rest however as launch day draws ever nearer. With galley cabinets and bulkhead panels installed, companionway stairs and steering test fitted, everything is on track for launch day in a few months’ time.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What does it mean when the exterior construction of a yacht is complete?

Exterior construction completion means that all structural elements, including hull, deck, and mast coamings, are finished. This milestone indicates the yacht is ready for interior fit-out and final coatings before launch.

What is a gloss proof-coat and why is it applied?

A gloss proof-coat is a protective layer applied to the hull that enhances durability and provides a smooth, shiny finish. It prepares the yacht for final painting or varnishing while protecting the surface during the remaining construction stages.

What interior work is done before the yacht is launched?

Before launch, the interior fit-out includes installing galley cabinets, bulkhead panels, companionway stairs, steering systems, and appliances like ovens. These steps ensure the yacht is fully functional, comfortable, and ready for sea trials.
