Launched in 2024, Te Whara V continues a family lineage that stretches back over 100 years. This Elite Mid Pilothouse is the ultimate refinement of her owner's needs; having built Te Wharas 2, 3, and 4, he knew exactly what he wanted.

Original Te Whara Cropped Rt

Te Whara - the Maori name for Northland's  Bream Head and its high rocky peak, is the name given to the first Te Whara. Launched in 1919, she was built by Bailey & Lowe at their yard at Northcote for our client's grandfather, the 32' Te Whara is still very much loved and currently resides on Lake Rotoiti.

The traditionally styled Te Whara V is the second Te Whara we have built for this client; she is the ultimate refinement of everything he wanted in a motor yacht.

With a spectacular teak interior, Te Whara V is a luxury motor yacht designed to voyage for weeks, not days. Our client's intent is to complete a full circumnavigation of New Zealand – exploring miles of unspoilt and remote New Zealand coastline in complete comfort in a vessel that is more than capable of handling the sometimes tempestuous weather that is boating in New Zealand's maritime environment.

The interior design is the Elite Mid Pilothouse classic three-cabin layout with a twist. Traditionally, the owner's cabin is in the bow, with a twin cabin to starboard and the guest cabin aft. However, as this
Te Whara was commissioned to comfortably accommodate their children and grandchildren, the bow cabin and twin cabins will be for their use.

Te Whara V General Arrangement

Te Whara V is Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders' 23rd Elite, and she incorporates all the refinements we have developed over those previous 22 builds. Just one example is the cockpit-side glass coaming extensions, these significantly reduce the volume of wind and spray entering both the upper and lower cockpits when underway without impacting visibility aft. The pillarless, retractable cockpit window is another development that has become a standard feature. With this window down and the main entrance door open, the dining area and cockpit become one very large entertaining space.

But as with all the boats we build, our clients have the ability to customise their boats to meet their needs perfectly. In this instance, our client is heavily involved with an international charity, so required a desk to be incorporated into the saloon layout, so that even when cruising, he can continue this good work. He also wanted a freshwater power washer plumbed in so she can be washed down no matter where they are anchored, and.... to save hours of hand drying to achieve a spot-free finish, a de-ionising water filtration system has also been incorporated. And that is one of the many advantages of custom-built boats; our clients get exactly the boat they desire.

The twin 550hp Scanias are very quiet and smooth, and at 9 knots she has a range of approximately 1,000 nautical miles. The de-rated 13L engines will rarely be asked to work hard, thus reducing wear and tear and increasing longevity.

With all the design features that make Elite motor yachts such popular boats for those who know—silent chines, internal and external access to the pilothouse and very comfortable and user-friendly general arrangement—to name but a few, Te Whara V is finished to Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders' impeccably high standards. We are very proud to have her wear the Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders badge.
