Launched in September 2016 Luana is Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders' 52nd new build. Built for a highly discerning Auckland couple, Luana is the epitome of a custom-built boat.
Luana is Hawaiian, which translates to “relaxing with family and friends”, and that is exactly how her owners have used their mid-pilothouse 50 motor yacht. They like to cruise at a relaxed eight to nine knots, which guided their choice of a single-engine installation; she is the first semi-displacement hull in the Elite range.
Alaskan Yellow Cedar strip planking covered in tri-axial glass and epoxy has made for a strong and durable hull, that remains osmosis-free and still looks good today. Decks are a lamination of plywood, foam and fibreglass.
Luana’s round bilge forward transitions to a hard chine, over the aft third of the hull. The hardening of the chine reduces stern “squatting”, improving efficiency, especially at displacement and slow planning speeds, as her fuel chart conclusively illustrates. Further efficiency is gained by the inclusion of a prop shaft pocket in the hull, allowing the shaft to run at a shallow 7 degrees.
Unique to Luana is her master stateroom and ensuite. On other Elite motor yachts, the aft cabin usually shares this space with the galley and dining; on Luana, the galley and dining areas are located in the saloon, leaving a large and luxurious main stateroom and bathroom aft.
Luana has marble vanities in the bathrooms and a stunning purplish-grey marble in the galley. The galley sole is solid oak, grey-washed to match the marble and reflects similar tones in the joinery. Luana’s silver pearl finished timber handrail and nameplates are the perfect complement to her two-tone exterior.
Fully airconditioned and finished to the highest standard Luana is built for absolute comfort. And once again, Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders' exacting standards gave the owners exactly the motor yacht they dreamed of.
