A long range luxury family cruiser

The Artnautica 53’s emphasis is family and long-range cruising. Fiji is within easy reach at a comfortable 8 knots - on her own tanks.

The overarching design rationale is spaciousness and as with all custom-built boats, the final configuration entirely depends on a client’s wants and needs.

In the configuration illustrated here, there is a large cockpit, excellent for water activities, great for fishing, scuba diving, and even sportfishing or… just relaxing in the sun. A full-beam Master cabin with a generous ensuite is located amidship. A twin (or double if preferred) VIP cabin is located forward and the generous VIP ensuite/day head is located in between. The VIP ensuite can be accessed from the cabin and the corridor, and in addition to the usual amenities, houses a washer/dryer.

Artnautica 53 Outboard Profile

Entry to the engine room and lazarette is either from the cockpit, accessed via hidden stairs under a lift-up section in the back of the cockpit seating, or a flush hatch in the upper cockpit sole. This space has ample room aft of the engines for a genset, watermaker, dive gear, etc. Two independent water tanks are situated fore and aft and can assist with trimming, optimising efficiency between long-range displacement and planing speeds.

The recommended engines are Cummins QSM11 715 hp with ZF311A gearboxes connected to shafts driving 28” (711mm) diameter four-blade propellers. Deep propeller tunnels would be utilised to keep a shallow shaft angle. At 9 knots, her estimated range is well over 1,000 nautical miles.

The beauty of this design is that, if a high top speed is not a concern, a smaller or de-rated engines will work perfectly well.

Artnautica Yacht Design:

After completing his boat building and yacht design studies in Main USA, Dennis Harjamaa established Artnautica Yacht Design and Boatworks in his home country of Finland in 1995.

Two years later, after some “interesting turns”, as Dennis describes it, he found himself in New Zealand. It is here that Dennis gained the experience that today, makes him such a talented designer.

After six years designing for McMullen and Wing, three years as in-house designer at Vaudrey Miller Yachts and a year with Roger Hill Yacht Design, Dennis opened Artnautica Yacht Design Ltd (NZ), the name reflecting the link to Dennis' earlier days as a hands-on builder/designer.

Dennis is a meticulous designer who creates boats that are highly efficient and very usable.
