Wind Spirit, the 23.9 (78.4ft) expedition ketch built by LSB and launched in 2022, departed Auckland just before Christmas 2023, bound for Brest, France - a journey of over 20,000 nautical miles.
Twelve months later, her owner, sailing solo, had departed France, navigating down the west coast of Africa making a stop in Cape Town, then crossing the vast Indian Ocean, passing south of Australia, and traversing the Tasman Sea to reach New Zealand, effectively completing a circumnavigation in March this year, with over half the journey competed single handedly.
Understandably, the journey has put Wind Spirit through her paces, and she has returned to LSB for some repairs, maintenance, and general touch-ups. Despite the demanding voyage, she has performed exceptionally well, a true testament to her designer and the skilled craftsman who brought her to life.
Her owner plans to depart New Zealand in November this year, completing the solo circumnavigation back to France. Peter Brooking and the lads will be sad to see her depart, but look forward to the next visit of this intrepid lady.
