After months of donated time and effort in the LSB yard, Tane Tarlton's 8.5m ex-SOLAS lifeboat reached and exciting milestone last week with her launching.
The unusual little vessel has been transformed from lifeboat to expedition boat. Tane, grandson of legendary diver and adventurer Kelly Tarlton, plans to circumnavigate Aotearoa, using the journey to share the stories of the people and organisations working to protect our precious marine environment.
The team at Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders has been proud to get behind the project, providing workshop space, materials and expert labour to help Tane turn the former lifeboat into a capable expedition vessel.
Seeing her hit the water was a great moment for Tane and for everyone at Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders who has lent a hand along the way. There is still plenty ahead for Tane as he prepares for his journey around New Zealand, but for now, we celebrate getting this unique project back on the water.
