Refit & Maintenance: B29: Antipodes Back for a Tidy Up

Antipodes 1

Apart from the usual regular antifouls and systems maintenance, the last time we did any substantial re-fit work on Antipodes was in 2014, where after 12 busy years of boating, we had her back for a complete re-paint.

Our client wanted the best of the best, with the repaint, no exception. All the windows came out; all the deck fittings came off. Anything that needed re-chroming or electro-polishing was chromed and polished. She was then thoroughly sanded, prepped and then painted. Everything was then re-attached, making her look as good as new again.

Removing everything rather than masking around things ensures the new paint is underneath window seals, deck fittings, etc., rather than butting up to them. Doing it this way makes for a much nicer job and eliminates any chance of edge peeling, making sure the new paint job lasts just as long as the original.

Now, ten years later, it is time for a bit of a tidy-up. Not a full re-paint, just a few touch-ups, plus refreshing the interior wood trim as some of   the polyurethane had, after 20 years, been impacted by the intense New Zealand sunshine.
